Scot Pollard Interview

Its White Rice Wednesday today I interviewed a castaway from one of Survivor's toughest seasons Kaoh Rong. Today's interview is with former NBA player Scot Pollard. We talked about some about his time out on the island and all things Survivor.

1.  What have you been up to since Survivor Kaoh Rong?
Scot- Since Survivor My wife gave birth to our son Icean which is my fourth. The separation of being on the show made us both realize we should have a baby. As soon as I got my phone back in LA, I called my wife and said, " we are having a baby". She said, " I had a dream that you called me and said that!" I've shown my movie a few times( The Profit) and am looking into festivals and distribution. Raising kids, appearances, charity events. That's life right now.

2. You and Jason had a tight alliance in the game. How close were you guys out there? and Are you guys still close now that the game is over?
Scot- Jason and I were the only contestants who were married with kids. We bonded over that and our similar mindset that came from military(him) and sports (me) . We are still close. We have visited each other and keep in touch regularly.

3. You and Jason stole essential tools around camp preventing your tribe and yourselves from eating. Can you explain that descion?
Scot- Jason, Tai, and I agreed that as guys who collected firewood, kept fire, provided and cooked most of the food that we would in effect go on strike. Further we would hide the tools to make sure the rest understood who was providing. It worked short term, and as providers in real life, we all had issues with that decision. We felt justified though and made the call we made, cruel as it seems. People seem to forget that Tai was in on the plan and actually put the fire out in the middle of the night as well!

4. What went through your mind when Tai chose not to use his idol to make the super idol costing you your spot in the game?
Scot-  Wow, like I said when it happened. We had a plan that included he and I and Jason getting to the final 3. Apparently he thought he had a better chance of beating whoever else would sit next to him at the final 3 besides Jason and I.

5.  Do you think that move ultimately cost Tai the win at the end?
Scot- Yes. I love Tai in real life. We are friends and keep in touch, but his social/strategic game was lacking. Towards the end I think the island got to him a little.

6. What in your opinion do you think it came down to when choosing Michele as Soul Survivor over Aubry?
Scot-  Michele got stronger as the game progressed. She hid in plain sight within alliances. She won immunity. She made moves that made sense, even if it was flipping, like on Julia. Aubry started weak. Ended weak. She had Joe in her pocket the whole time. He was one of two votes she got. That's Tai's advantage that he won that he only got to use once ( which was a useless move) and she had it the whole game! Michele didn't have that. And when it came time for the " vote out a jury member" challenge. Who won? Michele. And who did she intelligently get out? Neal, Aubry's biggest fan. Everyone but two people on the jury saw it my way, especially after I pointed it out. It wasn't close. Always remember that the players see EVERYTHING and the tv show can't possibly show everything we saw. After watching the edit, I could see the argument for Aubry, but in real life there was no question in my mind who deserved to win, and I still feel that way. Side note, I really like Aubry in real life!

7. You guys had three med evacs during your season. What are your thoughts on people who are med evac vs people who quit the game?
Scot- No one quit on our season, and I don't know anyone personally who quit, so I can't answer that. Medical evacuation is not by choice Ever.

8.There was some controversy as to how you and Jason treated Alecia during the game. Can you clarify as to what went on regarding Alecia around camp?
Scot-  At times I treated Alecia like a little sister, a friend, and an enemy. I remember when I was 24( her age on the island) I had a spouse, a child, and a mortgage. I'm wondering why people were so upset I treated her like an equal. Its's Survivor, not, " hey let's be friends" . I never called her a name besides referring to her as Blondie once. Blondie is a nickname. She's blonde. She constantly said bad things about me. Insulted me. One time her and I were plucking a chicken and we sang a chicken plucking song together. That wasn't on tv. Neither was the time when  no one would talk to her and it was raining at night and she was shivering and I went and wrapped my arms around her to keep warm. I'm fine with what was shown on tv because its' what I signed up for. But for fans to send me death threats based on what they see on tv? Dumb.

9. Do you consider yourself a hero or a villain?
Scot-  On that's season? Villain of course. You think anyone else on the cast could have been a villain? Jason and I looked around and instantly knew. " Yep we'll be the Villains. In real life? Hero. I have 4 kids that rule my world, a wife whom I adore, and an aging mother who depends on me.

10. What advice would you give to people wanting to go on Survivor?
Scot-  Be you. If you try to act like something you aren't , you won't make it past casting. They will find out who you are. Be you and if that fits what their theme is, you'll get picked.

11. Are you excited for Survivor Game Changers?
Scot- I'm excited to see Aubry, Tai and Debbie on again. The rest of the cast though, not so much. And some of this cast I don't think they deserve to be referred to as ' game changers"

Thank you Scot for taking the time to answer my questions. I hope you all learn from this interview I know I did. Hope everyone has a great day:)
